The TEAMS Forum series brings distinguished leaders in the field of urban education to campus, allowing the community an opportunity to discuss and build solutions around issues facing urban public schools.
The central theme of the 2009 TEAMS Forum Series is “Teaching and Schooling: Problem Posing and Innovation”. Too often, when problems around urban public schools are brought up, a sense of hopelessness and impossibility is also raised. By bringing light to those innovative practices, the determination and unwavering commitment to social justice exemplified by the invited speakers, we hope to inspire creativity and possibility. The Forum seeks to accomplish the following goals:
• Provide a space for inquiry and critical examination of problems facing under-served and under-resourced schools.
• Provide students and the community at large an opportunity to dialogue and network to reaffirm a commitment to educational equity and social justice.
• Provide an “urban laboratory” wherein innovative solutions are discussed and explored.
• Increase the visibility of the University, School of Education and TEAMS as an urban education leader, particularly around issues of equity and social justice.
